Marrakech

Marrakech is a fascinating city that is high on the list of places to visit by the discerning traveller. It comprises the medina, the old Arab quarter, and also the new town of Guéliz, which boasts modern restaurants and bars, and big brand stores.

The medina of Marrakech is built around the 12th century Koutoubia Mosque whose beautiful minaret dominates the skyline and can be seen from almost every approach to the city.

Any visit to Marrakech must include a look around the medina and its colourful souk (marketplace) where you can barter for carpets, leather goods, jewellery, lanterns and spices. Another must-see is the legendary Jemaa el-Fna, the busiest and most famous square in Africa, where snake charmers, storytellers, acrobats, medicine men and musicians compete for your attention.

Your accommodation in Marrakech will be at a traditional but luxurious riad in the Medina. This is on a B&B basis. There are numerous excellent dining opportunities in Marrakech that we can recommend.

The Atlas Mountains

The High Atlas Mountains, home of our Kasbah du Toubkal, dominate the skyline to the south of Marrakech. A whole new experience awaits those who venture 90 minutes south into the mountains. Stunning scenery greets you as you drive towards your accommodation at Kasbah du Toubkal.

The Atlas Mountains are home to the indigenous Berber people who have inhabited Morocco for at least 5000 years. The Berbers live in small clusters of earthen adobe houses which cling precipitously to mountainsides and are often only accessible by mule or foot. You will find the local people very hospitable and warm.

Your accommodation is at Kasbah du Toubkal. Whilst at the Kasbah, you may choose to take a trek with us, booked and paid locally.

Professionally guided treks follow ancient footpaths and mule tracks that connect local villages and navigate through dramatic landscapes comprising apple orchards, walnut groves and terraced mountainsides. In the villages you will have a glimpse into a way of life that has barely changed for centuries and where traditional values and hospitality are largely unaffected by the outside world. You could also get to meet the local people in their homes.
